Smaller than a spot on a ladybug… one nanometer is a length scale invisible to the naked eye, but one which has opened up a world of new science and engineering. From tennis balls with super bouncibility to nanosized particles for treating cancer, developments in nanotechnology are bringing solutions to applications never before imagined. But what exactly is nanotechnology? How will it impact our future? How can your students learn more about this emerging field?
During Nano Week in Cleveland, September 22 – 26, 2008 Alexis Abramson, Ph.D. will be delivering free “Nano 101” talks to Northeast Ohio schools. These 45 minute sessions will engage students in a discussion about nanotechnology as Dr. Abramson guides them through understanding its impact. Dr. Abramson has been giving her well-received “Nano 101” talks since 2006 to a wide ranging audience from pre-schoolers to multi-billion dollar technology corporations. The anchor event for Nano Week will be the NanoMedicine Summit, being held September 25-26, 2008 at the Ritz Carlton, Cleveland. Schools will also be able to nominate students accompanied by a teacher to attend this event for free.
Any Northeast Ohio K-12 school/classroom is eligible, however, we ask that the audience be limited to no more than 50 students at a time.
Interested schools and teachers, should apply by answering the questions below (please just copy/paste into an email) and emailing responses by September 15, 2008 to aabramson@nortech.org. Decisions about selection will be based largely on scheduling availability. You will receive notification by September 17, 2008.
